Some Southampton fans have been left angry at central defender Wesley Hoedt’s comments about the club’s manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.
Hoedt, who is on loan at Belgian club Royal Antwerp, recently gave an interview to Nieuwsblad and he revealed that he was never given a chance to impress under manager Hasenhuttl. He said that while the Austrian did tell him about giving the defender a ‘second chance’, he never got the first chance, in the first place.
Southampton fans: Are you angry at Hoedt?
He's bitter about things
We can have him back
A Southampton-oriented Twitter account called SaintsfcViews relayed these quotes in a tweet. And some Saints fans are absolutely raging about Hoedt’s comments about their manager.
Wesley Hodet on Hasnehuttl:
After Celta Vigo, I returned and so fit. He (Ralph) told me that I deserved a second chance. I responded ‘What do you mean, second chance? I have never had a first chance with you.’ #Saintsfc pic.twitter.com/UxuGj8Y3qh

After so many mistakes he was picked again & again, I would say he had many more chances than he deserved. Poor signing with the turning circle of an oil tanker.

Said the man who single handedly tried to send us down.

… and another bitter and twisted footballer who believes he is better than he is- I know my strengths and development areas, why can’t these sportsman know the same

He isn’t up to the premier league, and seems he has difficulty in accepting that despite having wasted multiple opportunities. Signing him was supposed to improve our defence, it had the opposite effect.

Seems your attitude is worse than your ability

Well maybe he should be better at defending!

Southampton signed Hoedt from Serie A giants Lazio in the summer of 2017 for a fee of £15million on a five-year deal. Last season, he had spent a loan stint at Spanish side Celta Vigo.
Hoedt has been a regular for Antwerp this season, playing constantly at centre-back. He has made 19 appearances in all competitions for the club. For Celta last season, Hoedt made only ten La Liga appearances in the second half of the campaign.
His last full season for the club came in the 2017-18 campaign when Hoedt had made 31 appearances in all competitions for the club. He had one goal and one assist to his name, after joining from the Biancocelesti.
What do we think?
Hoedt has already lost his position in the club’s first-team under Hasenhuttl. While he is entitled to his opinion about Hasenhuttl, they are doing fine without his presence at the back. The fact that they’re currently on a four-game unbeaten run shows just that.
