Some Southampton fans have expressed one concern about the club’s potential signing of Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker-Peters.
Sky Sports in the UK reported that the 22-year-old right-back is set to seal a loan deal at St. Mary’s this month, with an agreement in principle now reached between the two clubs. The report stated that the defender underwent a medical at Southampton yesterday ahead of a move till the end of the season.
And, Spurs have now confirmed that Walker-Peters has signed on loan at Southampton, though it doesn’t mention any kind of clause.
Is Walker-Peters better than Cedric?
He certainly is
Not yet, Cedric is better
Some Saints fans are concerned that the deal may only be a temporary one, as they want it to be a permanent one, with a couple of journalists previously stating (another source) that there’s no option to buy.
They made their opinions clear.
Surely with walker Peters it’s with view of permanent otherwise seems most pointless transfer going for us?

this signing is just fullback cover, not the end of the world, id be more interested if it has option to buy in the sunmer..

Same mate. Makes no sense really without having that option to buy.

how do you see the lack of a purchase option vs the comments Ralph made re only signing players where there is an opportunity more long term at Saints? Seems to conflict slightly!

One fan even stated that it was typical Daniel Levy. This is very understandable as the Spurs man is known as a ‘notoriously shrewd’ businessman, so the fact that Walker-Peters’ likely loan move may not have the option to buy is a win-win situation for Spurs. Indeed, if he plays well then he could return to North London with increased value and a shot at pushing his way in, and if he fails to impress Spurs still have the opportunity to sell him on.
Typical Levy. And then he charges £25 for a midweek cup replay. What an odious man.

Absolutely ridiculous if we don’t have an option to buy in the deal, what’s the point?

So far this season, Walker-Peters has not been a regular at Tottenham. He has made only five appearances in all competitions for Spurs and has played only once since Jose Mourinho took charge back in November. That appearance came against Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stage game.
Under Mauricio Pochettino last season, the Englishman made ten appearances in all competitions for the North London club. He got three assists and all of them came in the club’s 5-0 win over Bournemouth in a Premier League game.
What do we think?
Cedric Soares’ current deal at Southampton runs out in the summer of 2020, meaning the club has to sign a regular right-back. That is probably the concern Saints fans have about the club potentially not having the option to sign the player permanently. And that is a valid concern, considering Cedric has been linked with a move to Arsenal recently.
