Dean Henderson has been a brilliant loan signing for Sheffield United this season. He is joint top in the Premier League Golden Glove race, achieving eight clean sheets already. Ben Foster, Nick Pope and Kasper Schmeichel all have eight clean sheets as well.

But Chris Wilder admitted that the club would be unable to retain his services permanently from Manchester United during a press conference this week (via @SheffieldUnited). The English shot-stopper is currently on loan from the Red Devils and is set to rejoin his home club in the summer.

“It won’t be on a permanent basis, definitely not. His future is at Manchester United, no doubt. If the opportunity came about that figure would be huge. If the opportunity comes about that we could get him back on loan next season we’d be all over that,” said Wilder about the player potentially joining the Blades for next year’s campaign (Sheffield United).

A few fans were happy with Wilder’s honesty and are content to just watch the goalkeeper play while he is at the club. They agree that any fees for Henderson would be much too high. Others are naturally gutted though.

But others aren’t giving up hope. Despite Wilder saying the player’s transfer would cost too much, they think it would be worth it. Either that or they should take him on loan again and run down his Manchester United contract. One fan even warns Henderson that the Manchester United fans will be ruthless if he fails to live up to his expectations.

What do we think?

With David De Gea making a few mistakes already this season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be looking to bring in Henderson sooner rather than later. If he isn’t being brought in to replace the Spaniard next year, Sheffield United will likely be the first choice destination should he go back out on loan. But as Wilder said, his future looks destined for Manchester United. That might be something that Sheffield United fans just have to live with.
