A lot of Newcastle United fans have responded to Craig Hope’s takeover update.
The Daily Mail reporter claims that Mike Ashley does not want a takeover saga to be played out in public.
Do you believe Ashley actually wants to sell?
Yes, finally
No, will collapse again
Sources close to Amanda Staveley believe that the funding is in place and that it could be completed very soon, but they are just waiting for Ashley to agree to sell.
The Toon’s owner is thought to be annoyed that the story has leaked to the public, and there is now caution from Ashley.
This has irritated many Newcastle supporters who believe that if the money is there, then it does not matter if the move is played out in public.
NEW: Mike Ashley will tell Amanda Staveley-led consortium to come & buy NUFC if they want it. He has no appetite for another takeover saga played out in public. Sources close to Staveley say funding is in place & last obstacle is getting Ashley to sell https://t.co/v5njrO4SbF

If he doesn’t want it played out in public why doesn’t he just accept the bid and walk away within day he could be away from all this “takeover saga” but no you know why? He loves it the attention and everything that comes with it.

If Staveley is involved, & Ashley’s a willing seller, it should be a quick deal. She already knows the terms of an acceptable deal for Ashley after the last saga between the two of them. Even if the goalposts changed (more money, etc.), the buyers have the money to get it done!

He’s going to tell them to buy it but the only obstacle is whether he’s willing to sell? Is this a cryptic crossword clue?

Other Toon fans are convinced that the takeover is not happening.
It’s a waste of time asking for anyone’s gut feeling other than Ashley’s. As we know he’s a law to himself and until he gets the cash he wants experience tells us to be very sceptical of anything positive coming out of this #ASHLEYOUT

Not getting excited, does not seem real to me. This is not how I would do business so I really have no faith in this story. Far too close to season ticket renewal date for this to be anything other than someone’s fantasy.

What a load of absolute nonsense, surely if the talks have been ongoing for months this would have been discussed and he would have said this to them already. Fakeover #fakeover

Why does this feel like he is saying make him an offer he can’t refuse… rather than a price having already been agreed.

What do we think?
This latest takeover attempt from Staveley seems to be what Ashley has always wanted.
So, why if the deal is close does it matter that it has leaked? If the Sports Direct owner wants to sell the club, then the fact that it has gone public should make no difference.
