Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react to the latest referee appointment for their weekend showdown with Manchester United.

This comes after Liverpool journalist Paul Gorst shared a post on his official page revealing that Craig Pawson will be in charge of Sunday’s clash with Paul Tierney on VAR duty.

Will Liverpool beat United on Sunday?

Yes

Yes

No

No

This post then gathered a number of replies from Liverpool fans who were eager to share their thoughts on this latest referee appointment.

Interestingly, Craig Pawson refereed Liverpool’s loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford back in March of 2018, so fans certainly won’t have happy memories in terms of the result. Although, he has reffed in two of the Reds’ games since then in which they’ve won both.

Here’s a sample of Liverpool fans reacting to the post:

After this latest news broke of the referee appointment for Sunday’s match at Anfield, some Liverpool fans took pleasure in the fact that fellow referee Martin Atkinson would not be involved. Atkinson was in charge of Liverpool’s previous match against United at Old Trafford back in October. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, the only time Liverpool have dropped points in the Premier League so far this season. Atkinson stirred up controversy for the Liverpool fans after disallowing an opening goal for the visitors after VAR detected a foul in the build-up. Since that match, Liverpool fans have blamed Atkinson for their team not being on maximum points this season.

What do we think?

Disallowing one goal is not the reason why Liverpool failed to win at Old Trafford in October, they dropped points because they conceded a goal and couldn’t find a winner. The best way for the fans to move on would be to beat United at the weekend and hope that VAR makes no appearance this time.
