Liverpool fans have been discussing the latest news on Twitter surrounding the upcoming African Cup of Nations tournament.

This comes after James Pearce shared a post on his page relaying information originally shared by John Bennett.

The post revealed that the tournament will now be played during January and February next year, meaning that Liverpool will “potentially lose” Sadio Mane, Naby Keita and Mohamed Salah for six weeks.

Will the AFCON be a problem for Liverpool?

This post then led to a large number of Liverpool fans replying with their displeasure with this latest news.

Here’s a sample of Liverpool fans reacting to the news:

The tournament involving African countries will see Egypt’s Salah, Senegal’s Mane and Guinea’s Keita all take part next year.

This latest update on the tournament potentially taking Mane, Salah and Keita away from Liverpool for six weeks next year in January and February definitely did not go down well with a lot of Liverpool fans.

What do we think?

Given that Mane and Salah are currently the club’s two top scorers this season, it’s obvious why so many Liverpool fans would be upset by the possibility of the pair missing out on a chunk of their season next year, with Mane and Salah’s ability to create also adding to the misery.

As for Keita, his absence would result in their being one less option for Klopp to use in midfield. But seeing as this will not be happening for another year, no one knows what the Liverpool squad will look like by then.
