A transfer move for reported Everton target, Matias Vecino, from Internazionale is a ‘work in progress’, according to Calciomercato.

As reported by the Italian news site, cited by Sport Witness, Carlo Ancelotti is an admirer of the midfielder and the sale of Vecino is ‘fundamental’ to the Italian club’s transfer plans.

Flexible asking price

According to the report, the Serie A club has placed a €25-million asking price (£21.1m) on the 28-year-old Uruguayan, however, that price is negotiable.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, though, the player has already said yes to joining the Toffees (via Sport Witness).

TiF Tactics – How does he compare to what Everton have?

In recent months, if there is one position that has felt as though it has been lacking for the Toffees, it has been the centre of midfield despite having seven viable options on paper (as per Transfermarkt).

With Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph, Morgan Schneiderlin, Jean-Phillipe Gbamin and Gylfi Sigurdsson all having injury problems at one stage, the first-team has looked thin in the middle.

However, despite an injury, the club’s Icelandic midfielder has been an ever-present feature for the Toffees, with 24 appearances in all competitions in which he scored two goals and bagged one assist (per Transfermarkt).

For the Milan club, Vecino has exactly the same return of two goals and one assist, but over seven fewer games, having featured in 17 games in all competitions (per Transfermarkt).

In average ratings, Vecino has also outperformed Sigurdsson, with the Uruguayan boasting a 6.85/10 average rating (per WhoScored), where the Icelandic middleman has a 6.74/10 (via WhoScored).

Thus, due to his same goal involvements tally in fewer games and a greater average rating than Sigurdsson, Vecino could present a more viable midfield option than what Ancelotti already has at his disposal.
