Phil Parkinson’s tenure at Sunderland Football Club hasn’t gone brilliantly. In 12 games he has only managed to win two. The team’s performances have been lacklustre as well, only managing to score more than once in one game (WhoScored.com).
Twitter account D3D4Football shared some damning stats on Parkinson’s time at the club. In those 12 games, his team have only managed to create 26 chances. Under the last manager, Jack Ross, the team managed to create 48 chances in his last three games.
Fans weren’t even that surprised how uncreative the side have been under the new manager. Some even thought that number seemed too high.
Did you count twice?

Hoofing the ball long at every opportunity to a 5 foot odd lone striker who can’t hit a barn door will be why. PP is an absolute numpty

How many chances were shots on target

Do you think the Sunderland team can pick up the slack?
Yes
No
Some fans even pointed out that over one-quarter of the chances came in the team’s 5-0 victory over Tranmere.
Presumably around a quarter of them were in one game against Tranmere as well?

Embarrassingly, it’s more than a quarter

Were 17 of those 26 #safc chances against Tranmere?

What do we think?
This statistic will worry fans greatly. Not only are the team losing matches, but they also aren’t even coming close. There is no creativity at Sunderland right now. Parkinson must change his approach, and quickly. Either that or the players must find a new source for inspiration. Otherwise, the Black Cats could be in further danger than they already are.
