Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to share their frustrations with referee Martin Atkinson for his latest performance.
This comes after Atkinson took charge of Liverpool’s previous match in their 2-1 win over Brighton at the weekend.
But despite the victory, some Liverpool fans felt the need to tweet their negative opinions on the referee’s display in the match.
Was Martin Atkinson right to send Alisson off?
Yes
No
Here’s a sample of Liverpool fans slating Atkinson for his performance:
What an absolute clown. Where has football knowledge gone these days. Atkinson allowed for LFC to setup the wall, meaning no quick freekick was coming. It should of happened way before if that was the case, as compared to a corner which doesn’t need a refs whistle https://t.co/CBVRhyqROt

Dear @FA and @premierleague
Stop putting Martin Atkinson anywhere near Liverpool matches, send him to West ham’s game, or Newcastle’s game.
Never Liverpool’s
Otherwise people are going to begin to think he’s being paid off by someone…….#JustSaying— Karl Pickup (@KarlWPickup) December 1, 2019
Small reminder that Martin Atkinson, the Ref in this game, who ruled Firmino’s armpit to be offside, who didn’t give the foul at Old Trafford in the lead up to the United goal, is also working the VAR for the Merseyside Derby
… I say nothing. #LFC #YNWA #LIVBHA

The main gripe that these Liverpool fans have with Atkinson is his handling of the free-kick that Brighton scored their consolation goal from. This has come under a lot of scrutiny from Liverpool fans who were bemused with how the free-kick was set up by Atkinson.
Is it truly an obvious hate or just a coincidence that any negative thing happening to Liverpool FC had a Martin Atkinson involved?

Martin Atkinson in his last three Liverpool games.
1. Foul on Origi in the build up to Utds goal not given.
2. Moved the VAR line to make Firmino offside when he wasn’t.
3. Whistles when Adrian is still on his post for Brighton’s goal yesterday. #LFC

Martin Atkinson detests Liverpool, doesn’t he?

What do we think?
Not only the surprisingly quick free-kick preparation, but Atkinson also felt the wrath of the Anfield crowd when he brandished the Reds goalkeeper Alisson with a red card in the second half (BBC Sport). Given these two less than favourable decisions, it’s understandable why some Liverpool fans aren’t too happy with Atkinson at the moment.
