Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to respond to the latest update surrounding Takumi Minamino, as David Ornstein has stated that Man United were never interested in the player, contrary to reports that claimed the Red Devils were in the race.

This comes after Liverpool fan Twitter account @AnfieldEdition shared a post on their page relaying information originally published by David Ornstein that the Reds’ rivals Manchester United were never interested in signing the Japanese player.

Will Takumi Minamino be a successful signing for Liverpool?

This post then gathered many replies from Liverpool fans who were eager to share their opinions on this latest update.

Here’s a sample of Liverpool fans reacting to the post:

The post also claims that United were only interested in making a move for Minamino’s Salzburg teammate Erling Haaland. With some Liverpool fans originally thinking they had beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to the signing of Minamino, it seems the Manchester club were never in the running for his signature.

This then made some Liverpool fans tweet out their own feelings surrounding this update.

What do we think?
It may have been sweeter for all Liverpool fans for Minamino to arrive at Anfield knowing full well that he chose the Merseyside club over their Manchester rivals. But with this latest update claiming United never had any interest in signing the 24-year-old, it still doesn’t take away the fact that Liverpool may sign a very special player.

In 22 appearances for Salzburg so far this season, Minamino has scored nine goals and picked up 11 assists (per TransferMarkt). If he can continue this good form over in England, then he would provide a huge boost for Liverpool’s squad depth.
