Some Celtic fans are bashing striker Lewis Morgan for his disappointing showing in the club’s 2-1 win over Hamilton in the Premiership last night.

Neil Lennon’s men picked up a huge 2-1 win over Hamilton on Wednesday that kept them at the top of the Premiership ahead of Rangers, who were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw by Aberdeen away from home.

It was Ryan Christie who scored the first goal of the game in the second half. While Hamilton did equalise in the 90th minute, it was Scott Brown who got a stoppage-time winner to hand his side a two-point lead over Rangers ahead of a League Cup final (BBC).

Some Hoops fans, though, aren’t happy that Lewis Morgan started upfront. They clearly don’t think he is good enough for the team to be playing.

Celtic fans: Is Morgan good enough?

Give him a break!

Morgan, 23, has played 16 times in all competitions this season and has started all three of the club’s previous games by playing up front in place of the injured Odsonne Edouard. He did grab a goal for Neil Lennon’s men in their 3-1 win over Rennes last Thursday.

During the 16 games he has played this season, Morgan has contributed to four goals in total only. Two of them have been goals, while the others have been assists.

Morgan had joined Celtic from St.Mirren in the winter of 2018 for a fee of £300,000 but had stayed at his former club till the end of the 2017-18 campaign. Last season, he was on loan at League One side Sunderland, where the attacker played 22 times in all competitions and scored just two goals and racked up four assists.

What do we think?

Morgan’s numbers show that he hasn’t been a prolific goalscorer by any means. At St.Mirren, he had 31 goal contributions to his name in the 2017-18 campaign in all competitions, he was used as a right-winger or a left-winger in just about every game.

He isn’t a striker and he is doing a job that Leigh Griffiths should do. Playing Morgan in his preferred position would make more sense than playing him as a striker.
