Some Celtic fans have reacted to the Hoops’ interest in a potential move for Stoke City striker Tyrese Campbell, with the January transfer window approaching.

The Hoops are said to be interested in Campbell, as per the Daily Record. The report claims that Neil Lennon’s men are one of the six clubs to be keeping an eye on the 19-year-old forward.

It is said that Campbell could be available for what is a cut-price deal of £350,000, with the Englishman’s current deal at the club set to run out at the end of the season.

An England under-20s striker currently, Campbell is slowly rising up the pecking order at the Bet365 Stadium and has become a regular at the club this season.

Celtic fans: Do you need Tyrese Campbell?

We need someone better

Campbell is a product of the Manchester City youth academy and joined the Potteries based side from City three years ago.

This season, he has risen up the pecking order for Stoke and is getting some regular football for the club. He has made 13 appearances in the Championship for the club, scoring only once and playing 436 minutes of first-team football. He has also featured thrice in the League Cup, racking up one assist.

Last year, he did make three first-team appearances for the club last season. But in the second-half of the campaign, he was loaned out to Shrewsbury Town in the League One. He helped them seal survival in the division, scoring five times in 15 first-team appearances for the club.

His record for the Stoke Under-23s side has been impressive. He has played 47 times in the Premier League 2 for them, scoring 26 times and assisting twice.

What do we think?

The only criticism about a potential move for Campbell would be that he is quite young, just 19-years-old. Celtic would need a more experienced striker to come in and score some crucial goals, as the season wears on. But since he would arrive on a cut-price deal, it will be a very good long-term investment for the Hoops.
