Aston Villa fans have been tweeting their respect for Wesley after the striker recently spoke about the passing of his father.Β
This comes after Aston Villa fan Twitter account @villareport shared a post on their page relaying quotes made from Wesley to The Sun about his father’s unfortunate death.
Wesley revealed that his father died when the Villa striker was just nine-years-old and had problems with drugs and alcohol.
This post then gathered many replies from Villa fans who then tweeted their respect and support for Wesley for his brave comments.
Should Wesley be given more time to succeed at Villa?
Yes, give him time
No, drop him
Here’s a sample of Villa fans responding to the post:
Whether you’re for or against Wes, this man has overcome more adversity in his life than most ever will.
If you think a few fans on twitter and a couple boos are going to stop him, think otherwise.
Regardless of if/if we’re not playing him right atm, you have to back the man

Forget the debate about the rest of it, you have to have huge respect for the lad. Tackled more than most of us will in a lifetime. Certainly deserves to succeed. Respect

I think itβs time for us fans to cut him some slack and really get behind him, the lads been through a lot fans easily forget that when things arenβt going too well on the pitch. #utv

The Brazilian joined the Birmingham club in the recent summer transfer window from Belgian club FC Brugge for a fee of Β£22.5 million (per TransferMarkt). In 18 appearances for Villa, Wesley has only managed to score five goals (per TransferMarkt), but fans now seem willing to give him time after learning of his unfortunate past.
This latest revelation on his personal life as a child made some Villa fans emotional on Twitter.
Really hope it all works out for him here

I’ve read this before but i am still sat here with a tear in my eye, willing the lad to come good. I really want him to do well with Villa and have said before he needs better support.

What do we think?
Wesley’s decision to bare all about his troubled childhood has been a very brave one. With things not going to well for him on the pitch, it’s incredible to see so many Villa fans sending their love and appreciation for the striker.
If Wesley can get back into a good run of form for the club, the belief from the Villa fans will return.
