Supporters of Wolverhampton Wanderers have slammed a ‘shocking summer’ following the 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.
Following the clash with the Blades, it was revealed that it was the first time since April that a Premier League side had not made any substitutions in a match (as per Tim Spiers).
With supporters contemplating as to why that may have been, many looked at the recruitment in recent windows being disappointing as a potential explanation.
Wolves yesterday became the first Premier League side since April to not make any subs.
Since mid-October, Patrick Cutrome has played one minute in the league.
Better bench options needed? Or churlish to pick fault when things are going so well? #wwfc https://t.co/7P89PjD5dw

While I understand that a small squad has worked up to this point, haven’t we already had more injuries, niggles, knocks than last season? We’re playing more games I understand, but shouldn’t we have at least 18 players at the quality of where we want to be?

Think it’s a dig at the board that we need more. Nuno doesn’t trust the subs to change the game. 3/4 named on the bench are never getting on and are just making up the numbers.

Just shows what a shocking summer we had in the transfer market. Bunch of flops. 3 good prem proven additions needed in Jan imo. Hard to achieve I know.

Obviously a message to the board. Jarod Bowen from Hull will be a much better option than Patrick. Central defender also needed, Donk had his worst game for Wolves yesterday. We’ve been lucky with injuries for the past 3 seasons.

Will Patrick Cutrone come good for Wolves?Yes, he just needs timeNo, he's not good enough |
In the ensuing discussion, the Molineux faithful looked to one man to justify their slam of a perceived poor summer of transfer activity – Patrick Cutrone.
The Italian striker has managed to find the back of the net in only two of his 20 appearances for the Old Gold this term (as per Transfermarkt).
However, that may be due to his lack of game time, last featuring for Nuno Espirito Santo in the league for one minute against Aston Villa in early November (per Transfermarkt).
Therefore, a number of fans branded the 21-year-old as just not good enough for Wolves and an example of a poor summer of business.
We had nothing on the bench yesterday which would have swung the game on our favour. Cutrone is a good player but he’s massively overrated atm, and doesn’t guarantee you goals.

Probably because Cutrone is a bit naff. I mean we might as well of kept Leo.

Yes. A couple of reinforcements needed.

Our bench isn’t stong enough at all everybody can see that and it will be strengthened in January hopefully with some players with abit more experience

What do we think?
While it is strange that Nuno did not make a substitution for the Old Gold in Sunday’s draw, it was most likely due to the timing of the goal.
Five more minutes behind, and changes would have been likely, but following Matt Doherty’s goal, the Portuguese gaffer would not have wanted to displace the momentum.
As for Cutrone, it is clear that he is in desperate need of minutes, what he is getting does not give him enough time to make an impact, but the impressive form of Raul Jimenez makes it difficult.
