Spurs are lining up a move for Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini in January as a potential replacement for the outgoing Christian Eriksen.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (via the Guardian), the North London club are one of several European sides interested in bringing in the 23-year-old in January. Pellegrini has been in excellent form for Paulo Fonseca’s side so far this season, averaging a 7.52 rating in all competitions.
He is reportedly seen to be an excellent replacement for the outgoing Christian Eriksen, who Daniel Levy is keen to sell for around £40 million in January before his contract expires at the end of the season. Pellegrini is currently valued at £36 million by transfermarkt, so if Spurs are able to sell Eriksen in the upcoming transfer window, then it could fund a move for the Italian midfielder.

Pellegrini has contributed eight assists already from midfield for Roma this season and could be a quality long-term replacement for Christian Eriksen in Jose Mourinho’s new-look Spurs side. The 23-year-old has already made 12 appearances for the Italian national side and is attracting the likes of Manchester United and Juventus as well as Spurs according to the report.
Despite Eriksen having played more minutes than Pellegrini this season, the Italian has outperformed him in almost every aspect apart from goals and averages much higher shots per game (2.1, compared to 1.4 in the league) and pass accuracy (80.3, compared to 79.6) than the Danish midfielder.
If Mourinho truly is interested in the Roma man, then a move for the midfielder in January could depend on the Eriksen situation, but they will have to battle it out with the likes of Juventus and Inter if they are to secure him.
