Spurs fans were less than impressed to hear that Victor Wanyama’s cameo against Bayern Munich on Wednesday was simply to drum up interest in the Kenyan midfielder ahead of the January transfer window.
Jose Mourinho introduced Wanyama as a second-half substitute during the 3-1 loss against Bayern in what was only the 28-year-old’s third appearance of the season and Football Insider (via Ricky Sacks), suggest that it was simply to try and drum up interest in the midfielder ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
Since joining from Southampton in 2016, Wanyama has gone on to make 97 appearances for the North London club, but may well be on his way out in January.
Wanyama was close to a move to Club Brugge over the summer but after that fell apart, he has found himself on the fringes of the Spurs squad throughout the season so far. With Jose Mourinho arriving at the club in November, Wanyama had perhaps hoped to force his way into the Portuguese manager’s plans, but it seems he is willing to let the Kenyan leave for around £10 million in January.
Should Wanyama be sold in January?

Someone like @WestHam would take him, they don’t have a clue in the transfer market

At this point the club is gonna have to pay to get Dier, Wynama, Rose, and Eriksen out.

These Spurs fans are clearly hoping that the club can sell Wanyama in January but feel confused as to why he was afforded less than 10 minutes against Bayern Munich.
What do we think?
Wanyama is currently valued at £10.8 million by transfermarkt but Spurs may be lucky to get close to that figure if they look to sell the 28-year-old in January. Although a talented midfielder, the Kenyan has struggled with injuries during his time at Spurs, so it is no surprise that Mourinho is keen to move him on and raise some funds in January.
