Some Spurs fans were pleased to hear that the club are keeping a close eye on the progress of former academy graduate Marcus Edwards as he continues to impress for Portuguese side Vitoria SC.

According to the Portuguese news outlet Record (via Daily Hotspur), Jose Mourinho has been following the academy graduate’s development closely, since the Englishman joined the Portuguese side over the summer. The 21-year-old was thought to have a big future at Spurs after former manager Mauricio Pochettino compared him to Lionel Messi, but he was moved on after making just one appearance for the North London side.

Edwards had failed to impress during various loan spells at Norwich City and Excelsior Rotterdam, so it was no surprise to see him sold in the summer. However, with the young winger impressing in Portugal; with four goals and three assists already this season, some fans are starting to worry he was sold too soon.

These Spurs fans are clearly glad to hear that Mourinho is tracking Edwards’ progress and are perhaps hoping to see the youngster return to North London in the future.

What do we think?

Edwards had already caught the eye of Spurs fans with his goal against Arsenal in the Europa League earlier this season and is continuing to impress for Vitoria this season. With Spurs reportedly having a clause that guarantees them 50% of any sale of Edwards, perhaps a return to the Premier League is on the table for the 21-year-old.
