Spurs fans were excited to hear that manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly a big fan of Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare.
According to Sport Witness (via Ricky Sacks), the Lille president Gerard Lopez has discussed Mourinho’s interest in Soumare, saying: “I know he likes him very much, yes. Afterwards, he must also be interested in the football club so we will see.” The 20-year-old has been a regular in Lille’s side this season and produced a strong display in their 2-1 loss against Chelsea in the Champions League earlier this month.
Soumare is currently valued at £16.2 million by transfermarkt and could be the midfield enforcer Mourinho is looking for in his new-look Spurs side. Although the Frenchman has only averaged a 6.61 rating so far this season, he is touted as a star of the future and looks to be on Mourinho’s January wishlist.

This dude is a great player. Winks won’t ever see a game in his life for our club if we buy him. Which is great

Don’t worry, Campos will bring him.

Surely it makes sense to try and get him in January- even if it costs £15-20m
In the summer he’ll have so many clubs to chose from on a free contract, so go all out for him now for a relevant pittance in today’s market, Lille would prefer to get some £ for him now

These Spurs fans are clearly keen on a move for Soumare in January and feel he could be an excellent addition to Mourinho’s side.
What do we think?
Soumare is reportedly out of contract in the summer so Spurs will be free to approach the midfielder on a pre-contract deal in January with the view to signing him on a free transfer in the summer. You would suspect that Mourinho may opt to do that rather than trying to purchase the 20-year-old, but he may well face stiff competition from top European clubs in the summer. The Frenchman could be an excellent replacement for defensive-midfielder Victor Wanyama, who looks increasingly likely to leave the club in January.
