Spurs fans were treated to the news this week that the club are reportedly interested in signing Lille right-back Zeki Celik in January, news which has certainly split opinion amongst the Spurs faithful.

According to Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones, Spurs have identified Celik as a potential target in January, with Jose Mourinho looking to strengthen Spurs’ defence. The 22-year-old full-back has established himself as one of the best young talents in Ligue 1 and was solid for the majority of last season; averaging a 6.89 rating across 34 appearances for Lille.

It is no surprise that Spurs are targeting the Lille defender, with new assistant manager Joao Sacramento having joined Spurs from the French side in order to work alongside Mourinho. Right-back has often been a position quoted by Spurs fans as needing improvement and the Turkish international would presumably provide some much-needed competition for Serge Aurier.

Would Zeki Celik be a good signing for Spurs?

No

Reaction from Spurs fans to the possible signing of Celik can be seen below.

One fan even mentioned Luis Campos and Joao Sacramento may have recommended him, which is obviously down to their past and present affiliation with the French club.

Fans are clearly split over the possible signing of Celik with some happy about his potential whereas others are concerned about his poor form so far this season.

What do we think?

Sacramento will know a lot about Celik from his time at Lille and the Turkish right-back looks like he could come in and provide serious competition for Aurier; who in fairness has been superb under Mourinho so far.

Celik is currently valued at £15.3 million by transfermarkt so Daniel Levy certainly wouldn’t have to break the bank in order to secure his services.
