Spurs fans were delighted to hear that reported former Manchester United and Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini has stated his happiness at Chinese club Shandong Luneng.

In an interview with Eleven Sports (via Daily Hotspur), Fellaini spoke highly of Jose Mourinho, saying: “Jose is special for me. We text each other, we call each other from time to time. He’s taken over at Spurs and he’s doing well. I wish him all the best. But I am good where I am now.” The two worked together at Manchester United before Mourinho’s sacking last year, with the Belgian midfielder making the move to China just two months later.

The 32-year-old is well-known by Premier League fans for his time at United and Everton; having hit 55 goals in total during his time in England and his relationship with Mourinho sparked rumours of a potential return in January. Despite Fellaini’s impressive form in China, with a 7.32 average rating so far this season, Spurs fans were certainly relieved to hear that he is happy where he is at the moment.

Reaction from Spurs fans to the update from Fellaini can be seen in the tweets below.

These Spurs fans were clearly delighted to hear the update on Fellaini with a move for the 32-year-old in January now looking very unlikely.

What do we think?

You can see why Fellaini was linked with a reunion with Jose Mourinho, with the Portuguese manager perhaps lacking back-up options up front, with the £8.55 million rated man having often been deployed as a target man during his time at United. However, it now seems as if Mourinho will have to look elsewhere for a back-up striker, much to the relief of Spurs fans.
