Spurs fans were shocked to hear that Harry Kane is frustrated with Jose Mourinho’s decision to rest him ahead of their dead-rubber tie against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, with the England striker hoping to finish as top scorer in the competition.

According to the Evening Standard (via Hotspur Related), Kane is frustrated that the Portuguese manager plans to leave him out of their trip to the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening as he hopes to go on to win the top scorer award for the competition. The 26-year-old striker currently sits third in the top scorer rankings behind Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland and is perhaps worried he won’t be able to bridge the gap between himself and the Bayern striker if he misses their clash on Wednesday.

It is no surprise that Mourinho is keen to rest Kane however, as Spurs have already secured qualification to the knockout stages so is free to play a youthful side against the Bundesliga champions in order to rest first-team players for upcoming Premier League fixtures. The 56-year-old manager has already confirmed that Kane will not play in Germany as he looks to lessen the load on their star striker ahead of a busy festive period.

Reaction from Spurs fans to Kane’s apparent frustration can be seen in the tweets below.

These Spurs fans clearly feel that Mourinho is right to rest Kane for their game against Bayern Munich but appreciate the striker’s mentality of wanting to score as many goals as he can.

What do we think?

Kane came through the youth ranks at Spurs and should surely appreciate the need to play young academy players in games such as these, where the result really doesn’t matter. The England striker has been in superb form this season; with 15 goals in all competitions for Spurs but he will have to wait a while longer for his next effort if Mourinho does rest him for Wednesday night’s game.
