Some Celtic fans are absolutely fuming about broadcaster Adrian Durham’s comments about the club ‘cheating’ in their League Cup final Old Firm clash.

The Hoops recently picked up their 19th League Cup crown by beating the Gers in the final on Sunday. It was a second-half Christopher Jullien goal that helped Neil Lennon win his first title of the competition in his career.

It was Fraser Forster who had a key role to play in the win. The Englishman saved Alfredo Morelos’ critical penalty as Jeremie Frimpong was sent off as well (BBC).

Talksport’s Adrian Durham though, strangely claimed that the Hoops having Forster in the team is a case of ‘blatant cheating’ because Southampton are paying a vast majority of his fee.

Celtic fans: Has Forster been the best player of the season?

He does. He's been immense

Christie and co exist too!

Some Celtic fans are angry at Durham’s comments about the situation and are mocking him for it.

Forster has been instrumental for the club’s campaign this season. Not just in the domestic competitions, but the former Newcastle United man has been immense for the club in the Europa League too.

In their 2-1 win at the Stadio Olimpico against Lazio, Forster made as many as six saves in the game. In all competitions this season, Forster has played 20 times. He has managed to keep a total of nine clean sheets for the club, seven of them coming in the Premiership for the Hoops.

Before arriving at Parkhead from Southampton this past summer, Forster had fallen out of favour at St Mary’s last season. Last season, he had played four times in all competitions for the club. Only one came in the Premier League, with three coming for the club’s Under-23s outfit.

This is Forster’s second stint at Glasgow, as he had joined Southampton from the Hoops back in the summer of 2014 for a fee of £10million.

What do we think?

There is no issue in a parent club paying a part of a player’s wages when he goes out on loan to another club. It is a common practice in football and happens in just about every league in the world.

Durham’s comments are baseless and pointless. They point to how he isn’t giving the side enough credit for coming through in the game against Rangers on Sunday.
