Spurs fans were delighted to hear that Jose Mourinho is reportedly interesting in negotiating a deal with Real Madrid for Gareth Bale; with Christian Eriksen expected to head in the opposite direction.

According to Spanish news outlet Diario Gol (via TranSPURS), Mourinho wants to offer Eriksen plus-cash in order to secure the services of Bale from Los Blancos. It is seen to be a win-win for both clubs, with Spurs looking to avoid losing their Danish midfielder for nothing at the end of the season when his contract expires, whereas Zinedine Zidane is looking to move Bale on after various reported fallouts.

Bale left Spurs to join Real Madrid in 2013 in a world-record deal and has gone on to win four Champions Leagues with the Spanish giants, but is extremely unpopular amongst fans and management after his banner reveal last month. It seems ideal therefore for Spurs to re-sign the £54 million rated man, especially considering Real Madrid’s previous interest in Eriksen and fans are certainly excited about the possibility of a swap deal.

Who would be getting the better deal out of a potential Bale and Eriksen swap?

Reaction from Spurs fans to the Bale update can be seen in the tweets below.

One fan got a bit carried away and even suggested that Gareth Bale would be the key to winning the Premier League title next season.

These Spurs fans are clearly delighted about the prospect of re-signing Bale as well as seeing contract rebel Eriksen potentially leaving sooner than was previously expected.

What do we think?

Bale is on an enormous wage at Real Madrid so any chances of a deal happening seem to depend on whether he is willing to take a serious wage cut in order to join his former club. The Welshman has been in decent form for Madrid this season despite his limited appearances; averaging a 7.02 rating in all competitions.

If Spurs can negotiate a deal for the 30-year-old then it would be a brilliant addition to Mourinho’s squad.
