Spurs fans were full of praise for Paulo Gazzaniga after it was revealed only Liverpool’s Alisson has a better save percentage than the Argentinian.

According to COYS.com, Gazzaniga is joint second with a save vs shots ratio of 77% with Leicester’s Kasper Schmeichel with Alisson scoring 78%, This perhaps comes as a surprise to Spurs fans, with Jose Mourinho’s side having kept just two clean sheets in the Premier League so far this season.

Gazzaniga, who signed from Southampton in 2017, has been enjoying a run in the first-team following the long-term injury suffered by usual first-choice Hugo Lloris back in October. The 28-year-old shot-stopper has well and truly taken his chance, averaging an impressive 6.86 rating, including a man-of-the-match display in the 2-1 defeat by Liverpool earlier this season.

Should Gazzaniga keep his place when Lloris returns?

Reaction from Spurs fans to the Gazzaniga stat can be seen in the tweets below.

These Spurs fans are clearly delighted with Gazzaniga’s recent form, with some suggesting that the Argentinian should now be considered the club’s first-choice keeper.

What do we think?

Some of Gazzaniga’s impressive save ratio will no doubt be down in part to their struggling defence, but the £3.15 million rated has certainly done an astute job in place of club captain Lloris. It will be interesting to see if the Frenchman is restored to the side when he does recover from his elbow injury.
