Spurs fans were far from happy to hear that new manager Jose Mourinho may not be given any funds to improve his squad in the upcoming January transfer window.
According to Standard Sport (via Daily Hotspur), the Portuguese manager will simply have to work with what he currently has and won’t be backed by the board to bring in any signings in the January window. Spurs had won their first three games under Mourinho’s tenure but showed their limitations in a 2-1 defeat against Manchester United on Wednesday night and many fans had been hoping for some new signings to help propel them back up the table.
Mourinho had reportedly been targeting Portuguese duo Bruno Fernandes and Ruben Dias in January but after they both signed new contracts, the deal was off the table. The new boss had understandably wanted to improve upon Spurs’ struggling defence in January, but it seems as if he will now have to simply manage with his current squad until the end of the season.
Can Mourinho finish in the top four without January reinforcements?

How can we bring in a new manager and not give him any money doesn’t make any sense

This would have been discussed when he took the job so it won’t come as a surprise to Mourinho

These Spurs fans are clearly less than impressed to hear that Mourinho won’t be backed in January with many worrying about what the rest of the season will hold if he cannot improve the current squad.
What do we think?
It is a surprise that Mourinho won’t be given any funds in January, especially when it seems clear to the majority of fans that improvements are needed, especially in defence. However, if they do manage to sell Christian Eriksen in January, then perhaps some of that fee will be reinvested in the squad.
