After Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld posted a picture of himself and his daughter on Twitter, Spurs fans were quick to bombard the defender with replies telling him to sign a new deal with the club.

The 30-year-old defender, who signed from Atletico Madrid in 2014, is still yet to sign a new deal with the club and could walk away on a free transfer in the summer. The Belgian international has been excellent under new boss Jose Mourinho in his first five games in charge and now many Spurs fans are desperate to see him extend his stay with the North London club.

Since joining, Alderweireld has made 177 appearances for Spurs and established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League; earning a spot in the PFA Team of the Year in 2016. However, Spurs were keen to sell the Belgian over the summer but failed to do so, with several clubs deciding against signing him despite his reported £25 million release clause.

Will Alderweireld sign a new deal at Spurs?

Yes

No

Spurs fans are now desperate to ensure that Alderweireld signs a new deal so they avoid losing him on a free transfer, as can be seen in the tweets below.

These Spurs fans are clearly desperate for Alderweireld to sign a new deal with the club and will be hoping to see an announcement from the club in the near future.

What do we think?

Although his performances may have faltered under Mauricio Pochettino, Alderweireld has seriously shown his quality under Mourinho so far and it is perhaps a surprise that he is yet to agree terms with the club. If Mourinho can sort a deal for the £31.5 million rated man then he is safe in the knowledge that he has a top-quality centre-back at his disposal ahead of the probable rebuilding of the squad in preparation for his first full season in charge.
