Spurs are reportedly weighing up a move for Leicester right-back Ricardo Pereira in January, with Jose Mourinho looking to bring in competition for Serge Aurier.

According to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad (via Sport Witness), Spurs have already shown a strong interest in the Portuguese right-back and Leicester have already begun to look for a replacement in case the 26-year-old does make the move to North London. Pereira joined the Foxes from Porto in 2018 and has quickly established himself as one of the best full-backs in the league, having started every game so far this season for Brendan Rodgers’ high-flyers.

The Portuguese international has been in superb form both in an attacking sense and defensive sense for Leicester so far this season; contributing two goals and an assist, as well as helping Rodgers’ side to have the most clean sheets in the league. This is a stark comparison to Spurs, who have kept just two clean sheets all season, so it is no surprise to see Mourinho considering defensive reinforcements in January.

TIF Tactics:

Right-back is certainly a position that Spurs fans have identified as needing strengthening in the past, but Serge Aurier has been a revelation since the appointment of Mourinho last month. The Ivory Coast international has averaged a 7.23 rating across the season, which suggests that he is better than most fans give him credit for.

However, there is no doubt that Aurier is prone to mistakes and looks to be comfortably ahead of Kyle Walker-Peters in the current Spurs squad, so if Mourinho can bring in Pereira he will provide some much-needed competition. The Leicester man is currently valued at £36 million, so it would be a big transfer for Spurs if they do approach Leicester in January.
