Spurs look set to open talks with Paulo Gazzaniga over a new deal at the club, with the Argentinian having impressed following the injury to Hugo Lloris.

According to Football Insider, Spurs are expected to table a new contract offer to the 27-year-old keeper following a string of impressive performances for the North London club. Normally a back-up to Hugo Lloris, Gazzaniga was thrown into the first-team following the Frenchman’s nasty elbow injury in the loss at Brighton in October.

Gazzaniga originally signed for Spurs from Southampton in 2017 and the keeper has gone on to make 27 appearances for the North London club; the majority of which have come over the last few months. In that time, the Argentine has averaged a fairly impressive 6.85 rating and took the plaudits with an extremely impressive display in the 2-1 loss against Liverpool in October.

TIF Tactics:

It is no surprise that Spurs are keen to nail down Gazzaniga on a longer contract, as he has more than proven his worth to his squad over the last few months. With Lloris out for the foreseeable future, you would expect Mourinho to stick with the Argentinian as his first-choice until his return, although he may move for a goalkeeper in the January transfer window to provide further back-up, with third-choice Michel Vorm also struggling with injury at this time.

Although the £3.15 million man has kept just one clean sheet in his appearances so far, you feel that is primarily down to Spurs’ struggling defence and Mourinho is safe in the knowledge that if he can improve their defence then more clean sheets will follow, as Gazzaniga has shown he is more than capable of being first-choice.
