Jose Mourinho has reportedly made contact with Gareth Bale ahead of a potential return to the North London club in January.

According to Spanish news outlet Eldesmarque (via Sun Sport), Spurs are plotting a £25.7 million deal for the Welshman, which would also include Christian Eriksen moving to the Spanish giants. Bale has been regularly linked with a move away from Madrid in recent months, with fans having turned on the 30-year-old following a combination of injuries, poor form and the banner which he unveiled following Wales’ Euro 2020 qualification.

Spurs sold Bale to Madrid back in 2013 and the winger has gone on to have an excellent career in Spain; scoring 104 goals in 244 appearances during his six years at the club. He has helped Los Blancos to four Champions League titles; scoring the winning goal in wins against Atletico Madrid in 2014 and Liverpool in 2018 but has quickly lost the respect of fans and manager Zinedine Zidane after recent actions.

It is no surprise therefore that Zidane is keen to move Bale on in the January transfer window, although a move to the Chinese League; where the Welshman was heavily linked to in summer, now looks to be off the cards after recent limitations to the wages for foreign players in China. It seems to be the ideal move for both Real Madrid and Spurs, who would at least be able to offload Eriksen in January, rather than losing him on a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Bale had a superb record for Spurs during his last spell at the club; hitting 21 Premier League goals in his final full season at the club during 2012/13. It would be a sensational return if Mourinho can convince the Welsh international to move back to North London in January, although you suspect that his wages may well present an issue.
