Some Southampton have launched a scathing attack on their right-back, Cedric Soares, after their 2-1 loss to Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United in the Premier League at the weekend (BBC).

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men failed to win their third consecutive game in a row, as despite Danny Ings scoring a goal, the Magpies came back in the last 30 minutes to hand the Magpies big three points.

The Saints were unbeaten in three games before the loss to the Magpies, but the loss meant that they are now 18th in the Premier League- level on points with Aston Villa and West Ham.

Some Southampton fans are fuming at the performance of Cedric, who was starting in the game on Sunday.

The Portugal international played at right-back in the club’s 4-4-2 shape last night. But as per WhoScored, Cedric was dispossessed twice in the game. He completed just 71% of his passes, completing one dribble and winning three tackles. He was also dribbled past as many as three times as well.

So far this season, the right-back has played ten times in all competitions. He has played twice in the EFL Cup and has one assist to his name.

He joined the St.Mary’s in the summer of 2015 for a fee of £4.7million. Last season, he had joined Luciano Spalletti’s Inter in the second half of the campaign, where he played eight times in all competitions and had two assists to his name.

For the Saints, he has played 129 times in all competitions. During this time, he has scored three times and has racked up a tally of ten assists as well.

What do we think?

Cedric hasn’t had the best of seasons this term. Yan Valery was playing regularly for the club in the second half last season and he seems to be the future of the club at the age of 20.

This season, Cedric has been dribbled past 1.3 times per game. He has also made one foul per game. This shows that the Saints need Valery to come back and play regularly. Cedric’s deal at the club runs out next summer and time is already up for him.
