Some Southampton fans are fuming at the news about Moussa Djenepo and the injury update about him being unavailable for the upcoming Premier League clash against Aston Villa.

The Saints have lost their last two Premier League games and have sunk back in the relegation zone, enduring defeats at the hands of Newcastle and West Ham in the space of a week. Before that, they had beaten Norwich and Watford.

The game against Villa would be a big one for two sides that could well finish near the relegation zone this season. But Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has now revealed that the club will be without Djenepo, who is currently nursing a hamstring injury.

Southampton fans: Djenepo surely deserves time?

He's done enough for it

He's done enough for it

He's useless

He's useless

This hasn’t left too many Southampton fans happy and they are fuming about it.

Djenepo was one of the Saints’ summer signings. He arrived at the club from Belgian side Standard Liege for a fee could rise to £15m.

The Malian left-winger has got some action in the Premier League for the Saints this season though. He has played 11 times in all competitions for the club from St. Mary’s Stadium, scoring twice and racking up one assist.

He has started all four of the club’s previous Premier League games but has contributed to a single goal during this time. His last contribution to a goal came in the club’s 2-1 win over Watford where he grabbed an assist.

But the winger didn’t feature for the club in the games against Tottenham, Chelsea, Leicester, Wolves and Bournemouth. He also didn’t feature against Manchester United.

What do we think?

Djenepo hasn’t done too bad and atleast he has done better than Nathan Redmond, despite having played fewer games than him in his very first season in England. Redmond has played 15 Premier League games, scoring once and assisting not even once.

Indeed, it shows that Djenepo, who is valued at £10.8 million (as per Transfermarkt), has shown signs of promise. He just needs time to settle in. Injuries can happen to anyone.
