These fans have reacted to Mark Douglas’ latest injury update on Twitter, with some of them thanking former manager Rafa Benitez.
Newcastle United is currently 11th in the Premier League table, winning a total of six games out of the 16 they’ve played. However, Douglas has updated the fans on a few injuries or concerns and has praised the strength of depth in the defensive positions, something some of these fans are crediting to Benitez.
Here’s what these fans had to say about Douglas’ update:
Speaks volumes for #nufc strength-in-depth at the back that Lascelles and now Clark are out and they can still field a back three of Dummett, Schar and Fernandez with Lejeune in reserve.

And midfield that they can bring in Longstaff if Shelvey is out.
Front two of Carroll and Gayle tomorrow could work if we change formation— Stephen Ord (@smord84) December 13, 2019
A definite positive. Sounds like at least a couple of changes. Wonder if it may lead to a formation change? 2pm tomorrow will be interesting.

Who would you like at the club now Rafa Benitez or Steve Bruce?
Rafa Benitez
Steve Bruce
When Benitez was in charge, the Magpies picked up on average 1.48 points per game, that’s slightly better than Steve Bruce’s current average of 1.29 per match.
I think it would be too risky in January to, particularly with these injuries. Possibly in the Summer

Lejeune should be first name on the team sheet when fit

What Do We Think?
Clearly, these Newcastle fans aren’t overly concerned about the injury update. Whether you believe that was Rafa Benitez’s doing or not, there’s no denying that the Magpies fans were sad to see him leave the club and might be wondering what would have been if he was at the club now.
