A lot of Newcastle United fans are not happy with Dermot Gallagher’s reasoning for why Fernandinho was not sent off in the 2-2 draw.
Gallagher, an ex-Premier League referee, has defended Chris Kavanagh’s decision to not send the Brazilian international off after he brought Javier Manquillo down on the edge of the box.
Should Fernandinho have received his marching orders?
Yes
No
This has infuriated some Toon fans who felt he was not shown a red card because he plays for Manchester City.
Would you have shown a second yellow? #NUFC #MCFC https://t.co/O41lgkT03q

If he had been a Newcastle player or Burnley Brighton any team outside the top 6 off you would go

Another case of the top clubs getting favourable treatment. The commentary bias in this game was shameful.

All I’m reading is “he plays for Man City so no second yellow”… Its the most blatant second yellow I’ve ever seen…

Pretty sure the ref even goes to his back pocket then realises and decides not to book him again. Lump on him scoring against Burnley this week!

Yes, it was a bookable offence!!!

What do we think?
Fernandinho was on a yellow, and though the foul was on the edge of the area, it was more towards the right, (1:30) and therefore, it is understandable why Kavanagh didn’t send the City midfielder off.
St James’ Park was not happy with the decision, but just moments later, they erupted with joy as from that free-kick Jonjo Shelvey bent in a wonderful effort that beat Ederson to salvage a point for the Toon.
Kavanagh, though, is still not a popular man on Tyneside for failing to dismiss Fernandinho.
