A lot of Newcastle United fans believe that Jonas Gutierrez’s goal in the 2-0 win over West Ham United was the Toon’s best Moment of the Decade.
The Argentine battled back from testicular cancer to feature ten times in the second half of the 2014/15 season.
Is this Newcastle's Moment of the Decade?
Yes, it was a special moment
No, it was good but there were better moments
On the last day with Newcastle needing a win to survive, Gutierrez took control of the game and ensured that the Toon stayed in the Premier League.
First, he set up Moussa Sissoko for a crucial opener (0:42) and then, in the last few minutes of the game, received the ball from Jack Colback and lashed a strike past Adrian to seal Newcastle’s survival. (1:04)
He had battled back from cancer to save the club he loved, and many Toon fans think that this is the Moment of the Decade.

Yeah. This.
When Jonas more or less told Mike Ashley to shove things where the sun don’t shine. One of the most beautiful moments I’ve ever witnessed. @elgalgojonas You are missed! #AlwaysAGeordie pic.twitter.com/a9daReHOur— Danne Med Skägget (@DanneMedSkagget) December 30, 2019

Other Newcastle supporters are still appalled at the way the club treated Gutierrez.
What a moment, beating cancer and then ensuring survival. Disgraceful how he was treated afterwards.

And then released him over the phone, some way to treat your players

Yes. The same player you tried to screw over because he had a life threatening illness

What do we think?
Gutierrez saved Newcastle before he was then released just a week later – the club disregarded all of his good work, and a lot of Newcastle fans have never let the club forget the way they treated the Argentine.
After what he did, he should have been treated as a hero but was instead told to leave.
Mike Ashley has done some awful things at Newcastle, but this for sheer heartlessness could have been the worst.
