Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has denied there is any clause in his contract that could see him walk away from the club at the end of this current season.

The 48-year-old has been speaking to media ahead of his side’s trip to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday and when asked about the subject replied: “No, it’s not true. I spoke about my intentions a few weeks ago.”

A report that emerged in the Daily Mail on Friday claimed the Spaniard could walk away at the end of the season should certain stipulations that satisfy the club be met.

It was also claimed that the City hierarchy were big admirers of former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino and that he could be the man to succeed Guardiola when he does move on.

Would you like to see Pochettino eventually replace Guardiola?

TIF Tactics – If Pep was to leave, Pochettino would be an underwhelming appointment

Despite Guardiola’s comments, we cannot be sure that he will definitely stay at the Etihad Stadium beyond the end of this current campaign, but if he was to go Mauricio Pochettino would be an underwhelming replacement. The Argentinian may have guided Spurs to a Champions League final but the reality is he’s never shown himself to be a winner. His talented Tottenham side became synonymous for choking at the final hurdle and City have become a club obsessed by winning.

He would no doubt have greater resources at his disposal in Manchester but the North London outfit eventually felt he had taken the team as far as he possibly could – opting to replace him with Jose Mourinho. Whoever eventually takes over at the Etihad will have huge boots to fill and will likely be compared to Guardiola in everything he does and in Pochettino’s case, the pressure could prove too much.

However, for now at least, it does not appear as though Guardiola is looking to leave anytime before his current contract expires, so Man City fans might just be happy to see their serial winner remain at the club for a little longer.
