According to Sky Sports Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio (via Calciomercato), Manchester City have joined the race to sign Inter striker Lautaro Martinez.

The Argentinian forward has been a revelation in Serie A this season and the £36m-rated ace could be the long-term replacement for City’s all-time greatest goalscorer Sergio Aguero.

Despite his impressive goalscoring record this season, these supporters are torn on whether he would be the right fit for their club and some of the reasons against are questionable, to say the least.

Is Lautaro Martinez the man to replace Aguero in the long-term?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Whereas others would welcome the signing and think his arrival would bring the best out of Gabriel Jesus once Sergio Aguero eventually moves on.

What do we think?

Lautaro Martinez has scored eight goals and registered three assists in 14 Serie A appearances this season. His Inter side, led by Antonio Conte lead the table ahead of Juventus and stand a real good chance of winning their first Scudetto since the 2009/10 season.

The 22-year-old, formerly of Racing Club in Argentina is quickly establishing himself as one of the top-performing strikers in Europe. Signed for a reported £22.5m in the summer of 2018 his value has already increased to £36m according to TransferMarkt.co.uk.

When the club’s hierarchy fell out very publicly with Mauro Icardi during the course of last season, the Inter supporters wondered how they would replace his goals – however, Martinez has stepped up and filled the void seamlessly.

If City can capture the striker he will certainly be an asset and could potentially be the long-term replacement for the 31-year-old Aguero.
