Manchester City are said to be already making preparations for life after Pep Guardiola, fuelling further speculation regarding the 48-year-old’s future.

In the past, the Spaniard has said he will be seeing out the remainder of his current contract at the very least which runs until 2021.

However, according to the Athletic, there is a growing feeling this could be Guardiola’s last season in charge of the Cityzen’s – particularly if they were to win the Champions League.

Do you suspect this will be Pep's last season in Manchester?

The report states that the club have begun identifying potential candidates for a high-performance role and in the conversations that have been held, they have made it clear that this could indeed be the former Barcelona boss’ last season in the dugout.

An exact title for the role being discussed was not specified but it was described as a job to audit and oversee the first-team medical and fitness departments on behalf of the club, rather than the responsibility falling to the Head Coach.

TIF Tactics – Could this be Pep’s last season at the Etihad?

If he was to lead the club to Champions League glory, it would seem like the perfect time to draw a line under his career in Manchester – having ended his legacy in the best way possible considering what he has already achieved with the Sky Blues.

However, in order to achieve that his side will need to improve dramatically in the coming months and, although all is not rosy at the Etihad at present, they certainly have the talent to shift up a gear or two in the run-in.

There is no definitive evidence to suggest Guardiola is outbound, however it’s unlikely he would welcome another person to assess the performances of his players.
