Kelechi Iheanacho came off of the bench to score a last-gasp winner for Leicester City in their 2-1 victory over Everton at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

The 23-year-old striker was initially flagged offside but after a lengthy VAR check, the goal was deemed to have been perfectly legal sparking wild celebrations amongst the players and supporters.

Iheanacho tweeted on Monday morning dedicating the goal to the staff, his teammates and his family.  The fans in their replies were full of love for the Nigerian who has struggled for form and game time of late.

What do we think?

That was the forward’s first Premier League appearance and goal of the season. He has however scored a couple of goals in the Carabao Cup versus Luton and Burton Albion on the clubs route to the quarter-finals. Signed from Manchester City for £25m in August 2017, he hasn’t had the impact he would have hoped in the Leicester blue but with plenty of years ahead of him, the Foxes won’t be giving up on him just yet.

13 goals in 66 appearances for the club is a long way short of what was expected when he arrived but if they are to maintain their current league position they will need to make use of their strength-in-depth. Iheanacho can certainly be of help to Brendan Rodgers and he will be thrilled with the impact his substitute made at the weekend – another reason to be positive regarding their chances of a top-four finish this season.
