Former Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, has met with club officials from Everton over the vacant hot seat, according to Sky Sports.

On Monday morning, Sky Sports revealed that officials from the Goodison Park club had met with the Spaniard in London over a potential move to replace Marco Silva (via The Mirror).

The unlikelihood of the move

While there has been contact between the Toffees and the 48-year-old manager, according to Sky Sports, it remains unlikely that Emery will take the position due to wanting to spend some time away from football.

Reportedly, the Spaniard also wants to take time to improve his English before taking another job in the Premier League (per The Mirror).

With Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright having drawn up a four-man wanted list for the club’s new gaffer, they will not bide their time for too long over a decision from Emery.

TiF Tactics – Would Emery be a good fit for Everton?

With any incoming manager, it is always important to ask the question as to whether they would have the requisites to achieve in the short term while putting in structures for long-term success.

In Emery’s case, you would have to argue that he would have the ability to do that with the Toffees, despite having a torrid spell in North London.

In the short term, Emery’s formation of preference is 4-2-3-1, which was used in his last game with the Gunners (via Sky Sports), which the Everton players have a strong familiarity with having played in that structure under Marco Silva.

That will help in the short term as the players will not be stretched mid-season to learn a complex new structure, despite adapting well to a basic 4-4-2 in the victory over Chelsea (per Sky Sports).

In the long term, Emery has pedigree, again if you look past his time with Arsenal, the Spaniard has nine pieces of silverware under his managerial belt (per Transfermarkt).

While his successes with PSG came instantaneous and continuous over his two years in France, the Spaniard built a side capable of back-to-back-to-back Europa League victories over 205 games with Sevilla (per Transfermarkt).

While there are no excuses for his latest form as manager of Arsenal, it should only be viewed as a blemish on what is, overall, an impressive managerial CV.
