Everton fans have been full of praise for Mason Holgate in recent weeks, as the young defender put in another assured display in the 1-0 win against Burnley on Boxing Day.
In what was Carlo Ancelotti’s first game in charge, Holgate was instrumental as the Toffees snatched a late win thanks to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header. The 23-year-old has enjoyed a run in the side of late and earned an impressive 7.16 rating against Sean Dyche’s side to ensure that Ancelotti would begin his Everton tenure with a hard-earned win.
Holgate, who was signed from Barnsley in 2015, has made just 64 appearances in his four years at the club but looks to have nailed down a spot in the first-team after making his 12th appearance of the season in the Boxing Day win against Burnley. The England u’21 international is starting to win over Toffees’ fans with his performances after many had questioned the youngster following an inconsistent loan spell with West Brom last season.
Does Holgate deserve an England call up?

Do you still think he’s not gonna be a good enough top end premier league CB or is that mindset changing? Think he’s getting better by the game and looked really good today

These Toffees’ fans were clearly delighted with Holgate’s performance against Burnley and will be hoping that he continues to improve under Ancelotti.
What do we think?
The loan spell at West Brom looks to have really matured Holgate and he looks like a solid option for Ancelotti to have at centre-back. If he can continue to impress and keep Michael Keane out of the side, then surely an England call-up is on the cards for the £6.3 million rated man.
