Some Celtic fans are hailing Callum McGregor for rejecting an approach from their former manager Brendan Rodgers’ new club Leicester City.

The Scotland midfielder has been key to the Hoops’ midfield over the last few years. He is also already a very important part of the Scottish national team midfield, where he is a regular.

Recently, the 26-year-old was asked about interest from Rodgers’ Leicester and he revealed that he turned down an approach from the Foxes. He clarified that while the Premier League is ‘the best league around’, his love for Celtic made him stay at Parkhead.

Some Celtic fans are raving him about his loyalty for the club.

The 26-year-old from Glasgow is a product of the Hoops youth academy and has been at the club throughout his spell, bar a season-long loan spell at Notts County back in 2013 to 2014.

This season, he has played 29 times in all competitions for the club. He has scored five times, assisting twice for the club. Last season, the Scot played 59 times in all competitions and racked up a tally of six assists, racking up 16 assists on the way.

During his stint at Notts County, McGregor had made 41 appearances in all competitions for the then League One side. He scored 14 times and had one assist to his name too.

For the Scottish national team, he made his debut back in 2017. Since then, he has played 19 times in all competitions.

What do we think?

The value that McGregor has to Celtic can’t be underestimated. When others have come and left – like Kieran Tierney, he has stayed faithful to the club and the fact that he rejected Leicester shows just that.

Indeed, he will be very important for the club in the future, let alone this season. The connection he has with fans is special and one that many would like to see remain for many years to come.
