To celebrate what would have been Rangers club legend Willie Woodburn’s 100th birthday, the club hosted Woodburn’s family to Ibrox to commemorate the player. The room was filled with memorabilia from the player’s career.
Rangers tweeted a video of the celebration, including interviews with the player’s family and the Rangers club historian. Many fans responded to the tweet, claiming that Woodburn was the favourite player of their fathers and granddads.

One fan remembered the iron defence that Woodburn played centre-half for. Another remembered player’s physicality and ability to get stuck in during games.
My fathers hero, his favourite Gers player. Brown, Young, Shaw. McColl, Woodburn and Cox. The iron defence.

One fan wishes the player could play for the team right now.
Great guy, great player, and a gentleman. Supported him from day one. Wish we had him now. Great defender.

What do we think?
Woodburn is a huge icon in the history of Rangers Football Club. It is clear from these fans’ responses to the tweet that stories of the player will be passed down from generation to generation. Perhaps if Steven Gerrard’s men can bring home their 55th league title this season there will be a few more players with their names written into the club’s history.
