Rangers Youth beat Slovan Bratislava 2-0 in the UEFA Youth League this week. The goals came courtesy of Nathan Young-Coombes and Dapo Mebude. This sets up Rangers perfectly going into the second leg of this tie scheduled to be played on the 27th of November (Rangers’ official website).

Supporters were naturally supportive of the team, but some fans had extra praise for Mebude in particular. He scored a goal after Kai Kenndey’s cross took a slight deflection into the path of the forward.

Fans we complimentary of his ability to snatch up the half chance.

Others suggested that Mebude is the greatest of all time, while another compared him to Lionel Messi himself. At least they’re not getting carried away.

Some supporters looked to the future, with one fan suggesting that Mebude could make the team a lot of money. When discussing transfers, one fan even suggested that Mebude could be as good as a new signing in January if given a chance in the first-team setup.

What do we think?

While the first team at Rangers are proving themselves week after week, the youth side are also making great progress in their own competitions. Not only are they doing well in Europe, but they have also progressed in the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup. It is clear that players such as the 18-year-old are important to the success of Graeme Murty’s team. Perhaps we will see them feature in Steven Gerrard’s lineup soon as well.
