According to The Athletic, Nathan Patterson is close to agreeing a contract extension with Rangers Football Club. The 18-year old full-back is in the last year of his contract right now.
The news was welcomed by Rangers fans who have nothing but positive things to say about the player. One fan thinks he is the youth player with the best chance of becoming a first-team regular. Another questions how the club allowed him to get within a year of his contract expiring in the first place. They would like to see the club become more proactive in the future.
Patterson is a cracking prospect

Totally agree, he’s the one most likely to be a first team regular, always harder for forwards to make the grade I think. First saw him a couple of years ago and was a stand out then, surprised to hear he’s in last year of deal mind.

Begs the question why we are allowing our best talents to enter the final year of their contract!

Other fans see Patterson as a long-term replacement for the current captain, James Tavernier. They believe that in just a few years he will be pushing the English right-back for a spot in the starting 11. One eager fan even suggests giving Patterson the start this weekend to give Tavernier a break.
thought he looked excellent on Saturday and pleased to hear he’s close to signing a new deal, the long term replacement for Tav I hope and would be good to see him involved with 1st team as season progresses

I’ve seen the boy a few times and I agree he looks like a proper player fingers crossed we can get him tied down and he can step into Tavs shoes if he leaves

Seen him a couple of times, looks some prospect. For the likes of Hamilton away on Sunday, Id be giving Tav that extra rest and giving Patterson a game.

Be excellent to have one of our own at RB. Pushing Tav in a year or two. It’s clear Polster isn’t up to scratch.

What do we think?
While he may not be ready to start for Steven Gerrard right now, it is clear that these fans fully expect Patterson to be in the first-team picture soon. First Rangers must get the contract extension sorted. It appears, however, they are very close to doing so.
