Filip Helander’s week has gone pretty much as well as a week could go for a central defender. Not only did the player help his team to three victories by only conceding once, but the Swede also go on the scoresheet twice (transfermarkt.co.uk).

The first goal was a late winner against Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership. The second goal was also a winner, netting the first of three goals in a 3-0 victory over Hearts in the Scottish League Cup semi-final. Both goals were significant in their own way. Fans shared their thoughts on the Swede’s second goal, while others suggested that he is only getting better as the matches go by. Others applauded the finish, but we thought he was from Sweden?

One fan was happy that Helander could actually celebrate this goal, as last time he was face-first on the floor when his header hit the back of the net. Another suggested that he was going to bet on the player to score every time he plays in the future.

What do we think?

Despite Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos’ goal-scoring record, Steven Gerrard will be happy to see that goals can come from elsewhere on the pitch. And while Helander will be focused more on preventing goals than scoring them, he’ll certainly have enjoyed grabbing two this week.
