Some Nottingham Forest fans have hailed the club’s right-back Matty Cash as the club’s Player of the Season so far.

The 22-year-old defender’s impressive performances this season have seen him get linked with clubs like Everton, Southampton and Crystal Palace. All three clubs are said to be following the Englishman’s progress.

The defender has scored twice and has racked up a tally of just as many assists so far this season. He has played 14 times in the Championship.

When Forest recently asked fans on Twitter as to who their Player of the Season should be, some fans had zero doubt that it should be Cash himself.

In all competitions, Cash has made 17 appearances, with this being his fourth full season at Forest – ever since he made a breakthrough into the first the first-team back in the 2016-17 Championship campaign.

Cash had impressed for the club last season too. He had played 36 games in the league and four times in the League Cup. In all competitions, the man from Slough had scored eight times and had bagged a tally of two assists. But he had played further forward as a winger or as a right/left-sided midfielder.

This season, his role has changed and Cash has been the first-choice right-back under Sabri Lamouchi.

Some Forest fans were also split between Cash and goalkeeper Brice Samba.

Samba joined Forest from French side Caen this past summer for an undisclosed fee. So far this season, the 25-year-old has played 11 times in the Championship.

What do we think?

Some fans are right to believe that the Player of the Season so far has to be one of Cash or Samba. One has been immense while going forward from the defensive areas, having made a swift transition to playing as right-back regularly. Samba, on the other hand, has conceded only nine goals in 11 games and has kept four clean-sheets. That is an impressive number in itself.
