Newcastle fans have been pleading on Twitter for Joelinton to be dropped from the team after another poor performance against Aston Villa.
This comes after Newcastle news Twitter account @ChronicleNUFC shared a post on their official page asking their followers if they would drop the striker and shake up the front three ahead of their upcoming clash with Man City, which included Monday’s comments from Magpies journalist Lee Ryder from.
This post then gathered many replies from Newcastle fans who think seeing Joelinton dropped would benefit the team.
Should Joelinton start against Manchester City?
Yes
No
Here’s a sample of Newcastle fans calling for Joelinton to be dropped:

Yes, time for Gayle. He & Almiron are now proving what we all feared #CantScore

Yes I would, no point on him starting

The forward, who is valued at £31.5 million (Transfermarkt), played 72 minutes for Steve Bruce’s side before being replaced by Dwight Gayle as the Magpies tried to salvage a result at Villa Park. But the game ended 2-0 in Villa’s favour and opened the door for criticism towards the Newcastle front three, including Joelinton.
Sorry but joelinton and almiron need dropping

I think we might have to – competition for a place may be what he needs, doesn’t help him that our team never have possession and build up the play leaving him isolated most of the time

This applies to not just Joelinton, but Almiron and Saint Maximin. Every time one receives the ball it is usually deep and they are just expected to do a mazy run and smash a worldy top bins! We need to be drilled to attack as a unit.

What do we think?
The Brazilian’s poor run of form has seen him come under a lot of scrutiny recently with some calling for the player to be dropped from the team. But for a player with bags of ability and devoid of confidence, would a possible stint on the substitutes’ bench benefit him or the team?
Nevertheless, his 6.77 rated (WhoScored) performance seems like the final straw for some fans, but it remains to be seen as to what Steve Bruce will decide to do with the summer signing.
