Newcastle are currently in negotiations with Sean Longstaff over a new contract at St. James Park.

Newcastle journalist Mark Douglas spoke to Chronicle Live about the current contract situation the midfielder is in with the club.

Douglas claimed that Longstaff’s representatives are angling for a cash boost in Longstaff’s contract as a result of reported interest from Manchester United over the summer increasing his value at Newcastle.

He goes on to state that the deal will get done, but for fans to expect to-ing and fro-ing.

The journalist also stated that it’s Longstaff’s intention to stay at the club with the player not thinking about any move away from Newcastle.

The 22-year-old, who is currently valued at £16.2 million, according to Transfermarkt, signed a four-year deal at the Tyneside club a year ago but is now looking for an improved wage at the club.

The elder Longstaff brother has made eight appearances, grabbing one assist for Steve Bruce’s side in the Premier League this year, earning himself a total match rating average of 6.52, according to WhoScored. In his latest appearance for Newcastle, he didn’t exactly put in the prettiest of performances as he was given a red card, meaning he has to serve a three-match ban, with one game remaining.

Longstaff will return to action for Bruce’s side after their upcoming clash against Aston Villa on Monday. This means he will make his return for Newcastle in their match against Manchester City at St. James Park next weekend.
