These Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to show their appreciation for goalkeeper Orjan Nyland on his Villa debut in the 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Sunday.
This praise came after the third-choice ‘keeper tweeted his disappointment with the result, but displayed his joy with making his debut for the club.
This tweet then led to a number of Villa fans jumping to the defence of the ‘keeper.
Here’s a sample of Villa fans showing their appreciation for Nyland:
Well done Orjan, new start for you now. You was playing behind a bit of a nervy defense last season Should be a lot easier and more comfortable for a keeper playing behind a settled, more assured backline. UTV

You did a good job yesterday. Nothing you could do about the goals

Top man Orjan coming into the game after a few minutes, looked like you’ve never been away, looked very composed, well played

The Norwegian, who is valued at £1.8 million, joined the Birmingham club in 2018 from third-tier German side FC Ingolstadt for a fee of £2.7 million (per Transfermarkt). In his first appearance for Villa in the Premier League, the 30-year-old earned himself a rating of 6.4 according to WhoScored.
But despite a low match rating, there were some Villa fans who were impressed enough to show their support for the ‘keeper.
Well done Orjan! Really good to see you back and getting your turn in the Premier League.

You put a good shift in mate. Unlucky with their first goal: you were so close, man!

What do we think?
Having already lost first-choice ‘keeper Tom Heaton to injury before the match, then having to make an early substitution after second-choice ‘keeper Jed Steer suffered an injury, Villa were not in the most ideal position in the early stages of the match. But despite conceding two goals, some Villa fans were quick to defend their ‘keeper.
Nyland made 23 appearances for Villa in the Championship last season, keeping six clean sheets and conceding 34 goals (per TransferMarkt), and Villa fans will be hoping he can build on the number of clean sheets he’s made at the club already should he be called upon again in the near future.
