This week when speaking to the Evening Times, Kevin Nisbet suggested that he was flattered after hearing that Rangers were interested in competing for his signature. The 22-year-old striker is currently playing with Dunfermline, scoring 11 goals in 19 matches so far this season.

It is no wonder why Nisbet is flattered considering the calibre of strikers Rangers currently have on hand. With Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe leading the lines, there hardly seems room for another on-form striker to join Steven Gerrard team. But perhaps that’s exactly the case. What if Rangers’ interest is a sign that one of the strikers currently at Rangers is on his way out.

Of course, Defoe is, perhaps, coming to the end of his career. The striker is 37 years of age, which is near retirement age for a professional football player. But this could also be a sign that Rangers are preparing for Alfredo Morelos’ imminent departure.

It has been no secret that the Colombian international is one of the hottest commodities in British football. There has been interest shown from English Premier League and English Championship teams for the last few months now (The Scottish Sun). With the money being waved in front of Rangers’ noses, who knows how long the board can hold out before cashing in on the player (Football Insider).

Earlier this week, Rangers’ Ross Wilson indicated the club were preparing for any potential ‘what-if’ scenarios (The Scotsman). One of those scenarios, of course, being the loss of Morelos. The interest being shown for Nisbet could be the first sign that this ‘what-if’ scenario is being anticipated to happen sooner rather than later.

Nisbet is only valued at £90,000 according to transfermarkt.co.uk. Of course, with the player only being 22, he could end up going for a bit more. If Morelos does end up leaving for the estimated £20million, and Nisbet comes in as his replacement, it could leave Rangers with an abundance of money to reinvest into the team.
